What’s The Mind’s Eclipse?
The Mind’s Eclipse is a science fiction visual novel about humanity’s dystopian future. Players follow the story of celebrity scientist Dr. Jonathan Campbell, who awakens to find a city in ruin. As the story unfolds, the player learns more about how science, technology, and human emotion played a role in the downfall of a space civilization.
I found the The Mind’s Eclipse to be a haunting and believable story of how even the best intentions can end badly. I was impressed by how much character development was presented by simply reading through emails on abandoned data pads. Love, loss, betrayal, confusion. There was so much to discover and read about while exploring the abandoned facility.
The most fascinating aspect of the game is how it deals with the intersection of technology, science, and religion. One would think that religion might die out in a world where technology can provide everything needed, but The Mind’s Eclipse shows otherwise.
- The story is mature, thought-provoking, and well-written.
- The hand drawn environments are a breath of fresh air, and the colorless art style feels as cold as the abandoned space station.
- There’s plenty to explore in every room: data pads with forgotten emails, mysterious plant life, photos from a past life, event nanopunk advertisements. Never once did I leave a room feeling like it had been a waste of time to explore.
The Mind’s Eclipse is a great fit for anyone who likes science fiction stories, visual novels, or dialogue-heavy games. Because the pacing is slow, this may not be the best choice for those seeking lightning-fast adventure.
